What started as research,
turned into a calling.

What if dogs aren't supposed to be sick?

The official line: I am an award-winning clinical pet nutritionist and Wild Biome is the sixth animal wellness company that I have cofounded, excluding my own private practice, in the past 15 years. I have bachelors degrees from Grand Valley State University in both Biology and Zoology, a degree in Pet Food Nutrition from DNM University, a degree from Animal Behavior College for Veterinary Technology, and a degree from the Academy of Natural Health Sciences in Clinical Pet Nutrition.

After starting my career working in emergency veterinary medicine, I quickly realized that my life’s calling is to heal 1M of America’s sickest pets, for good. I’ve spent the past two decades studying animal nutrition and have cured tens of thousands of pets around the world - everything from chronic ear infections to pancreatitis - with my nutrition and gut-revival plans.

The bottom line: I am a mother to three human babies and two canine babies. I care about my kids, and I also care about yours. So, like any mother would, I simply have to share what I’ve learned about keeping dogs healthy over 15 years of schooling, research and practice.

Let me be clear and direct. Your dog should not be sick. And while true healing is a journey, the gut microbiome is stop number one.

“One night around 4 am, I said to myself, ‘ This can’t be the way it’s supposed to be, these dogs are young, what on earth is going on?”

“The next day, I put in my two weeks notice, went back to school to become a CPN, and started the most intense amount of research that I have ever conducted. It’s like I found my calling- I was determined to make America’s pets healthier.”

Our Story

1990

Born in Lake Orion, Michigan and introduced to the family motto, “if you can create the habitat, you can have it.” There was never a time we didn’t have animals.

1996

Inspired by the world’s scrappiest wildlife rehabilitator, “Grandma B”, I pursue animal husbandry, and memorize the animal encyclopedia by age six

2002

The orphaned mastiff pup, Joey, comes into my life and changes everything. Many tween-year-old days spent reading the backs of dog food bags and caring for Joey.

2008

Despite my best efforts, Joey passes away too young. I feel betrayed. There’s no way dog food companies would create food that is actually bad for dogs…right?

2009

While my friends are living up freshman year of college, I spend my days as the animal expert at the local pet store, and my nights as a vet tech in the vet ER.

2010

The animal ER: the most eye-opening experience of my life. Every night I see dogs with damaged guts: vomiting, bloody diarrhea, anorexia, organ failure, pancreatitis, you name it. Terrified pet parents ask, “How can we stop this?”

2010

Time and again, I watch our veterinarians put these same dogs on antibiotics and corn-based foods. Like clockwork, the same dogs return within months, weeks, sometimes days.

2011

I put in my two weeks, go back to school to become a CPN, and start the most intense research I’ve conducted to date, thinking, ‘These dogs should not be sick.’

2012

I begin creating customized meal plans for my patients out of a specialty pet food store. I meet hundreds of dogs whose health issues lead back to one source: a damaged gut microbiome.

2016

I am introduced to the sweetest and sickest bullbaby, Tyson, who has been over medicated, over vaccinated, and prescribed one of the most inflammatory dog foods out there. (This is just what you can see, Tyson’s entire musculoskeletal structure is also in atrophy.)

2012

Tyson’s momma posts about his journey to health which opens the floodgates to what I deem, “Bulldog Mania.” Turns out the canine birth experience and first twelve months of life have everything to do with gut-microbiome health.

2016

Word spreads quickly. We open the Grand Rapids, Michigan Practice!

2021

After 4 years of trial and error, research and reconfiguring, sweat, tears, sleepless nights, and zero blood, I’ve finally discovered a standard protocol that is customizable for any dog with a sick gut.

2022

Even with an entire staff of nutritionists, we can’t keep up with demand. It’s time to expand bring our goal of 1M pets healed, into reality. Mike and Lizzie have the same goal, so we team up and Wild Biome is born!

Because every dog deserves good health.

Our Mission

We envision a world where dog owners are empowered with the knowledge and resources to solve their dogs’ most common health issues for the long term, in their homes and without a trip to the vet.

We were founded by two dog lovers who saw the connection between these seemingly different, but common health issues, and decided to tackle the source rather than formulating another topical cream.

Our Standards

We envision a world where dog owners are empowered with the knowledge and resources to solve their dogs’ most common health issues for the long term, in their homes and without a trip to the vet.

Our Story

Our story starts with a little girl named Sam who has the animal encyclopedia memorized at age 7.

One year into her first job in the local animal ER, Sam is treating the same dogs with the same symptoms over and over to no avail. Sam becomes increasingly concerned that the default solutions (antibiotics, steroid shots, and more corn-based foods) are actually part of the problem.

After years of study and research, Sam concluded that the root problem of 90% of all the most common canine health issues is found in the gut-microbiome. An unbalanced gut creates an unbalanced body.

For the next fifteen years Sam heals thousands of incurable dogs suffering from recurring bouts of diarrhea, vomiting, allergies, intense itching and licking, hot spots, skin scales, fur staining, and goopy eyes. Sam’s Michigan-based practice gets written up in Forbes, _____,______, and _____ and attracts clients from Hong Kong to ______.

In an attempt to reach even more suffering dogs, Sam teams up with serial entrepreneurs Mike + Liz to package her solution and make it available to all dogs everywhere without compromising the effectiveness and personal magic touch she has cultivated for her clients over the years.
